Almost Edible Gingerbread Ornaments

At my job in the After School Program at a local elementary school I am in charge of the crafts...well most of them. This week is Holiday Expressions. We have made an advent chain of red and green construction paper, Reindeer thumb prints, tissue paper wreaths, and these wonderful ornaments.
These look and smell like oven-fresh gingerbread cookies. We had to repeatedly tell the kids not to eat them.
I apologize for having no pics just directions and instructions.

To make the "dough" you need
24 oz Applesauce
4 cups cinnamon
1/2 cup glue (kids glue for school is fine)

This makes enough to make 15-25 gingerbread ornaments.

You combine all ingredients and roll it out. I liked best to roll it out half an inch thick. After it is rolled out cookie cut it with little gingerbread men. We let ours dry from Friday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon so they would for sure be done.

Now for the fun kids part.

Each child got one gingerbread man and they could decorate it however they chose.
We had spray glitter in gold and silver. (most kids chose both!)
We had sequins in every color to be glued on.
Finally we had glitter glue in ever color imaginable.
All these led to many fun and different gingerbread men.

This project was really fun to do with 80 kids like I did but also I imagine that it would be fun with just your kids at home!

Plus best part is they smelled heavenly and will remain that fragrant for years to come.
My brother made one in 1st grade and it probably smelled till he was in high school.

On a side note, I had extra dough and made some "poop"ori for Clayton's desk at work. Just rolled it into poop looking piles that smell that same heavenly gingerbread...the man's desk fragrance. He wont be scared to sport that...his friends will think it is hilarious not girlie!

I may come back with pictures but I gotta take them at school!

Seems like

Seems like I fell of the face of the earth for a while.
Less than 24 hours after writing the last post I came down with the flu. I know couldn't suck worse.
So I was with my mom and about 1:30 I took a power nap. 2 when I woke up I felt funny. By 3 when I was at work I was feeling pretty bad. By 3:30 I had a temp of 100.2. I work at an elem. school so I should have immediately gone home with the low grade fever but I couldn't leave them stranded and I needed the money. By 4 I had aches and chills. I knew my fever was higher but did not take it again. I told my boss I needed to go home but since I am a teacher and not just a leader she wouldn't let me till 5:05. I was dying. I went straight to my parents and fell asleep. My mom called Clayton and told him to bring me medicine. It seemed I was delirious They took my temp it was 102.8. I was wimpering in my sleep. We left and went to Clayton's mom's because she was gonna watch Lilly since I couldn't function. Clayton and sis-in-law went to see New Moon without me and I was so sick for a few days. I feel a lot better now.
I also got to see New Moon finally.
Thanksgiving was amazing. Saw family, ate well and was Thankful.
I need another break from work though, its nice to have everyone off of work and around.
On Thanksgiving day Lilly had her first solid food, rice cereal! She loved it and I love her.
More later...I have pictures of all my crafting, tutorials and even a December to do list.

24 Hours!

In 24 hours me and my sis-in-law will be at the theater awaiting the bliss called New Moon.
I have been a Twilight fan for quite some time. I found it the summer I worked as a children's librarian. It was wonderful. A few weeks later Eclipse came out, while I was on vacation with the family and Clayton and we stopped at a Sam's in Colorado and got it. I was done before we got home.
I agonized over the pages where Edward proposes to Bella. I read them over and over and over again. Then in 2 months I was engaged.
Fast forward a year when me and my bff Nicole went to a Breaking Dawn release party, as high school teachers. Then Bella was pregnant and fast forward 2 months and Clayton and I were pregnant. It was crazy.
I have probably read those books 10 times each. I even wanted Clayton to read them so bad that I read them out loud to him and Lilly while she was still on the inside.

Can't wait!

Catch up on some stuff

OK so I forgot that adding pictures puts them in reverse of how I choose them...so the most recent is at the top and it goes backwards in time. :)

First we have Lilly in a Princess Aurora wig for my build a bear, I just wanted to see what she looked like with blonde hair!
This is what we had for lunch today...bacon cheddar Fries...yummy!
Here is Clayton whipping up the bacon.
This is my most recent fabric purchase and Lilly's soon to be blankt.

I still need a brown and a cream I think to round it all out.

Here are my two favorite people. Daddy is excited and Lilly has spit up on her shoulder. She still looks cute supporting her Aggies...even if they lost horrifically.
Here is Lilly's first quilt her momma is making her for Christmas...I just layed it out to get a good idea about how I wanted it. This first way is the way it will be.
This was my other option...but now the stripes will be on the back.
Close up of two of the squares.

Lilly's new favorite thing to do....
eat her feet....
and do baby push ups.
This is her on Halloween before her costume...she looks adorable.
Told ya the last one was a long time ago...

I just wanted this post to catch up with the stuff I have been doing.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Oh man it has almost been a week. I think when there is a lot to post about I stress about remembering it all so I don't post at all.
First I got a stick family at the top of the page and a Christmas countdown at the bottom...I love them.
We also found out that Cade is getting home on the 4th to NC and then will make his way over here ASAP so he can be here for Luke's birth, we hope!
It is only a week, well less, until New Moon. I feel like it was just yesterday that I was like..."Gosh that is going to be forever from now".
All week I got to shop for the school at the book fair. I think I found my calling. Spending someone else's money! It was fantastic.
Lilly had her 4 month check up. She is 25 inches long and that makes her in the 75th percentile, She weighs exactly 13 lbs and that puts her in the 40th percentile and her head I can't remember but she's in the 65th percentile. Dr was impressed with her motor skills and told me to start cereal. We decided to giver her the first cereal on Thanksgiving so it would be like her feast! Lol we are silly...well mostly me. She got 5 shots, one oral and the rest the usual way, it was so so sad.
Friday was MIL's birthday so we went to dinner. When we got back Lilly was fussy. She felt hot so we took temp and it was 100.6....dr told me to call hospital if went over 100.3 so we did. They said might be shots but unlikely since it had been well over 24 hours. So we gave her medicine.
It was 4 months so it was also picture day...she wasn't thrilled. We got some cute ones but not good enough for our family Christmas card so we are going to do them again. IDK when though.
Here are some of my favs:

Elk Bow I made! and look at that lip!
My mom and dad and Little Lills in her Christmas dress
Aunt Hills and baby Luke still on the inside...he should be here soon!
Dee Daw and Lilly
Mommy and Daddy kissing their girl.
Still asleep from the fever and medicine.
so simple.
She loves those feet.
My First Christmas hat.
I had to split the back seam because her head was too big....apparently made for the 25 percentile not 65.

Since she was sick she skipped the Elks playoff game we went to at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium and went home with my parents.
We went on to the game and it was fun but I got tired quick. We came home and got Lilly, went home and went to bed as soon as Miss Lilly would let us.
Tomorrow are plans all involve cleaning, laundry and resting for the week ahead.

Lilly meets Fall

Lilly is a summer baby. She was born in July. I swan the entire last trimester of my pregnancy everyday! She still gets to wear sleeveless in this Texas November so today it was nice for Lilly-O to meet Fall.
Autumn, as they call, rarely surfaces in Texas so we thought while we had good proof it was actually a season we took pictures.

Ok it makes me extremely angry that the first two pictures wont go any larger...They aren't bad pics so I have no idea why.
Any way Lilly loved the leaves and she looked at them and layed in them for a good while. I love the pictures and can't wait for her photo shoot Friday.

Lilly's 3 month pictures

Lilly was scheduled to take pictures on the 13th of October. The her photographer came down with Swine Flu and it was best to just wait it out. So a week later on the 20th all was clear so we went ahead with the photo shoot. This is the results and I love love them!
She was a frog for Halloween and this is her adorable costume!

Even a little anger was so cute.
Another tutu shot because I feel the last ones did not due her or it justice.

Some with me and her because those as so few and far between. Plus it was so close to my birthday!
I love the flower...I made it of course!
My favorite thing is her tights...they go over her feet like 80's jazzercise pants and look so perfect!
My goal is to take her picture every month on or close to the 13th and I hope I can keep it up because its so cute and important to me to have a lot of pictures of her. My next appointment is the 13th of November...Thank you Lord for giving me so many special people gifted in photography and want to do this for me for free!

More on the baby shower

I am feeling a lot better now and so far Lilly has not caught anything. That reminds me to go and take my night dose of antibiotics. BRB
OK so now that I am feeling better I can catch up on everything, mostly blogging, crafting and cleaning.
Ok so I wanted to write about all the stuff I made for Hillary and Baby Luke's shower. I did not take any pictures because I made this all so last minute I was working until the minute I left for the shower. I will however have pictures from the shower asap.
I made two burpies in a brown and blue corduroy. I just bought the cloth diapers, Gerber brand I think, I then cut strips like 8 or 9 inches by 18 inches. Then I folded the edges over and zig zag sewed around the edges. It looks really good and I am proud of it being my first sewing project.
I then made a matching boppy cover from the economical baby pattern. It was fairly easy to complete and only took me about 45 minutes total. It was my first zipper! It fit really well and I want to make me one out of some other fabric I have laying around.
I bought some nice fleece Hills picked out and made her a small blanket for covering the carrier. Just a simple tie around the edges one. It was my first however and I learned a good lesson that 1 yard by 1 yard is not enough and any other time besides for this newborn baby it will have to be more.
Then at the last minute I made her my favorite part of the whole thing. I made her some pee pee tee pees. They are for covering the little guy's tiny parts so he can't spray mommy or daddy. I made her 4 out of 1.25 worth of fabric. It was such as good deal! I loved them! I will be making more of them in the future.
I also got her 6 cans of formula. But that's all for the gifts. Now on to the actual shower.
Food wise I made chicken salad sandwiches, an entire loaf of bread worth. Then another loaf of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in honor of the little guy. I made some spinach dip with Hawaiian bread and then a luscious fruit dip that was a knock off of one from Jason's Deli. I made the punch as well. It was a random find on line and it was amazing. It was blue punch so it worked for the blue/brown theme and it involved sprite, blue hawaiian punch, orange and pineapple concentrate and frozen raspberries. Love loved it!
My mil made queso and chips and a veggie tray with dip.
My mom brought sweet tea and unsweet tea from chicken express...best tea in the world.
My step-mil made potatoe salad-it's famous, tortilla roll-ups, a fruit tray and her and my fil made pulled prk sandwiches and sauce. Between the two of us we made coffee.
Bethany, Hill's best friend had her mom make the cake and it was freaking amazing...there will def be pics of that.
decor wise we had the tissue paper puffs/balls from martha stewart and they were amazing looking. I kept a white one for Lilly's room so you'll see it. They are good for any party and I will probably make them again.
One the main tables we had blue, brown and white table clothes and then we had 3 groupings of pictures. Two in each, one of Hillary as a baby and one of Cade as a baby. They were a big hit.
Then there were vases of flowers and they had blue and brown bows around them.
Clayton and Cade's cousin who made me a diaper cake made Hillary a diaper cake and another basket that was decorated. It had some really cool stuff in it, instead of flowers it had cat's tails and tall grasses, very boy! Then in had a Marine rubber ducky. I loved it! They both worked very well as decoration and gifts. Rachel makes these for a little bit of spare cash on the side. She is pretty darn good at it too!
We had a lot of games first when people came in they could pick what day they thought Luke would be born on, so I had calendar pages for every day between now and her due date as well as a month later. Then we played the normal clothes pin game but with a twist. We painted them blue and brown and wrote words on them in white. These words were the words that could not be said: Boy, Luke, Mommy, Daddy and baby. So if you had two pins, like we gave everyone to start, and they said Mommy and Luke those were the words you could not say. The more pins you stole from people the more words you couldn't say. Then we played the toilet paper game. She was so tiny! Her mom and sister were the two that got it right! How weird. The best game was my favorite part. We made Luke a letters book. Everyone drew a letter and was to create a picture to correspond to that letter and I am going to bind it and laminate them for Luke first book of letters from everyone who loves him. I loved the idea and I am still working on the ending part of it. Hopefully by Christmas. Since it was such a large shower we spent a long time opening gifts.
Over all it was a lot of fun but I might wait a while before I do another one. It was a lot of work with a 3-month old of my own and probably ran me close to $400 and I only paid for half. Boy was Clayton pissed. She loved it though! That's all that matters.

Ok So I have been....

SICK! Very sick.
It all started last weekend. Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday were devoted to Hillary's shower. It is such work to throw a shower. I don't want to get into the shower until maybe Monday because I have so many good pictures of it and wont have them till then.
Well Sunday when all was done and the shower was over I went home to rest. Then my throat started to hurt. I thought nothing of since I had been so busy and stressed. Well Monday when I woke up it hurt more. At first I was excited to call in and get the day off to hang out with my mom. I went over there pretty early and we worked on cleaning up her house. She recently closed her own small business and had to close one of her offices at her job so she moved home two whole rooms of stuff. On top of that she moved out a entire room of accumulation to create a nursery. We worked hard on that Monday till Clayton got home.
We had dinner, went home and I went to bed. Tuesday I woke up and it was worse again so I called in a little less excitedly and went to my mom's. She watched Lilly while I slept a lot then later in the day we cleaned again. By the ed of that day I was pretty bad off and had called the doctor for a sick appointment. It was the next day and my grandmother was going to watch Lilly for me while my mom took me.
Tuesday night was Hell. I felt terrible and woke up every hour or so. Wednesday morning I woke up as Clayton was getting ready for work and decided I felt so bad he had better drive me because I was so bad off. I almost thought I had better go to the emergency room because my throat was swelling shut, there was no way I could possibly swallow anything. I got to my moms and slept a little while because she took Lilly. When I woke up we took Lilly to my grandmother's and off to the dr.
When I got there. I had to tell them about my new insurance and they kept asking questions..I had no voice because of my throat and it was horrible to talk. When I finally got it all out she said, " and Kristen...here." It was so embarrassing to be the only one in the crowded drs office.
Moments after being captured in this photo I realized it doesn't help to not cover my nose!
Well turns out it was just bad strept throat. My dr did not even need to culture it, he took one look and decided to give me a shot. I took the shot and the prescription and went on my way. Within maybe 5 hours I was feeling a lot better. That night we spent the night with my mom because I was still contagious and really weak. It was going to be just me, then me and Lilly and Clayton was sad so he decided to stay with us. It was nice having a night out of out house but I am sure our kitties were not happy. Today was my first day back to work and I was excited but man I am still having a rough time of it.
I am just looking forward to getting better, the weekend, Halloween and Fall Back and hour!

It's here!

It is officially my birthday! 24! It just doesn"t seem real. I know I am married and I am a mommy but I feel like I am still a kid. Maybe that is why I still Love Love my birthday. I am so excited it is finally here.
I get to go to Red Lobster to eat endless shrimp I am so excited.
I am starting to plan all my Christmas presents and crafts. I can't really talk about the presents because some people read this, I know its hard to believe. The other stuff though is ok.
I plan to make our families stockings. I want them to look old timey but made out of felt with thick stitching.
I also would like to make a Christmas fleece blanket for our house.
An advent calender to count down the days till Christmas.
A quilted table runner and matching napkins.
These will all be on my November and December to do lists because I need to save up the funds for them.
I still need to post pictures of my finished tutus and finished burpies. I need to take pictures as I go with my boppy cover and maybe create my first tutorial. That would be exciting. I also bought the fleece for the babies blankets so all I need to do is put them together.
Hillary's shower is this weekend so I got a lot to do for that and I will be taking pictures and maybe passing along some tips that were helpful in planning a baby shower.
Yesterday Lilly took her 3-month pictures and we got 73 good ones. They are mostly halloween centered like in her costume or in a pumpkin outfit but there are some more of her in her tutu and then in just a diaper with me. I love them and can post some of them soon too. Her next pictures are on November 13th her 4-month birthday...if that makes any sense.
Now its just time to lay down and sleep next to my baby.

P.S. I got my first order for flower headbands today. Two actually. So I will post pics of those as I go as well.

I have been...

I have been so tired.
I even had a day of rest when Lilly slept over at my mom's since she is off for vacation. The weekend wasn't stressful but the upcoming one is with Hills shower. I have so much going on for it as the hostess that I have neglected my duties in gift giving.
I have finished her burpies in brown and blue dot but still need to cut the pattern for the boppy cover, cut the fabric and sew the boppy cover. Thats at least an hour of solid work. Do I ever have a solid hour of work? No.
I still need to make fleece blanket as well. Thats like 15 minutes though and that will make two...one for Luke and one for Niko.
I gotta go with my mom to babies r us and get the bought gift which is her diaper genie and I don't know what my mom is getting her.
Then I need to get things for her shower like all the food supplies I need, two cheap-o things of diapers for diaper game, markers, two things of good diapers for diaper guessing game, container for diapers, letters for ABC book, blue and brown spray paint, blue, white and brown tissue paper, blue, white and brown tulle, cups, 2 more prizes for hills, two or three prizes for guests, piggy bank full of change for shaking ans guessing the amount, calender to guess due date, cute thing to go into chair for pics with Hillary and I am sure I am missing some stuff but my brain is dead. Well I am going to bed with my baby since I was without her last night!

3 Months!

I cannot believe she is 3 months. My little baby is growing up so fast. She is out growing most of her newborn size clothes quickly and now fitting into 0-3 months. She looks so cute and not so newborn-y. She smiles all the time, laughs a lot especially at mommy and daddy, she grabs toys occasionally, she drools enough to fill a swimming pool daily, she is getting more used to tummy time, and today she rolled over from back to stomach all by herself. How special! I love her so much! I can't wait to see what the next month brings us and out little Lilly-O.

It has been a while

I know it has been a while since I wrote. It is because of the weekend we had. We had been referring to this weekend as the weekend from hell all along.
It all began Friday.
Clayton came to my school for community helper month. He came in full scientist regale and it was so fun. The kids were just as excited about him being my husband as him being a scientist. They were so cute! They said things like, "You must be filthy rich". After that we went straight to MIL's house and then to dinner and on to Lilly's first Burleson Elks game. I already showed you her bow I made her but I failed to finish her onesie in time for the game. This turned out to be ok because it was freezing and she was bundled up completely for the game. No one would have seen it had I finished it. If I get it done we could go to the final home game on 10/30. IDK though if we'll go. My only regret of the night is we did not take her picture at her first game! Sad times.
Then Lilly spent her second night away from mommy and daddy and her first one away in 2 months which was really hard. I cried. She stayed with Clayton's mom so we could go to his cousin's wedding the next day. So when we woke up (early unfortunately) we showered and I actually got to fix my hair and put on make-up. The wedding was at a beautiful church at TCU and then the reception was at the renowned Reatta restaurant. Fabulous and traditional.
We got home from that to get Lilly at about 3:30. The on to my parents because we were all car pooling to West together for my great aunt and uncle's 50th wedding anniversary. It was fun because a lot of the attendees had not seen Lilly yet. We stayed there until about 9 and then went home. Finally got to our house and settled by about 11pm.
Woke up the next morning and had to get ready to take hubby into town for laundry, Lilly to my mom's for the afternoon and I had to go to SIL's first baby shower. It was really fun but just work and time away from Lilly. Once we got home about 6 or 7 FIL wanted to see Lilly so we took her to his house and ran home to make dinner, and finish all dishes before she came home. We got a lot accomplished but it was the weekend from hell.
Luckily Monday was a holiday so Lilly and I slept in (when do we not) and then went into town to eat and hang out with my mom. We got home about 7 and had already had dinner. It was nice. We just sat around, talked and played with Lilly.
Today was supposed to be Pictures and then staying with Sandra but the Photographer is a friend of the family and does it out of her home. Well her son went to hospital Sunday night with Swine Flu so we canceled in case anything was in the house that might make Lilly sick. So instead me and Sandra went shopping for Hillary's baby shower not this weekend but next. When we got back to the house with lunch Lilly was having a bad time with gas, she screamed for a good while and it broke my heart she as in such pain. Between her pain and my still overly tiredness from the weekend I ended up calling in sick to work. I was really worried she was coming down with something. Sandra went a head and kept her though and let me nap. I woke up and Clayton was home. We got Lilly and made dinner, watched some tv and I worked on some stuff.
Then my mom called and said my aunt called and said my cousin was in the hospital since Sunday with Swine flu and he was at party Saturday night so now I am more worried about Lilly than ever.
That brings me up to now. I am better rested and ready to face the rest of the week. AND we have no plans for next weekend! Yay!

What an eventful night

Just as we were all crawling into bed to go to sleep Clayton handed me Lilly to feed and I realized she was poopy and it was coming out her leg hole of the diaper. It was dark in the room so Clayton looks at his hand and it had poop all over it. Then he gets up to get her cleaned up and it is all over my boppy pillow. He goes into her room and I follow. It is all over his boxers, I mean all over. The I come back to our bed and it is all over his pillow and his side of the sheet. He said he felt warm liquid but thought it was her drooling cause she does do that a lot. Yuck. Poor Lilly. Poor us. We had to change all bedding when we were ready to climb in for the night. Of course I got some pics. Mostly it is Lilly propped up in the bedding while we change sheets.
