Rebel Wihout A Cause #59

Movie Monday

Wow! Good Movie. I can for sure see why it is a must see and on the top 100 list. There is not much deepness that needs reading into but it is a very early movie of teen anguish and not fitting in. It completely bridges the 50+ years since its release to now with all the movies about teens not fitting in and disobeying their parents, falling in love and getting into trouble with the law. I would say this movie started it all and would be relate to what teenagers feel in anytime, the 50's, 60s, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's and even now.

It made me really sad that James Dean died so young, before the movie was even released, before he really got to reach his full potential. At least he left a pretty good mark on the world.

Family Friday- New Year's Eve

This year, as in the three previous years, we went to Clayton's uncle's house. We had a lot of fun being with family.
Uncle Scott sipping his Champagne.

Morgan did not like my overly active snapshot.

Aunt Michele.
Shanny-
Morgan partaking in the festivities.

We played this

We were quite lazy

We drank this- except me, I was not feeling it.

Clayton
Kiss at Midnight!

Family Friday-Family Pictures

It will take me a lot of time to get all caught up on family in the last few months and I may not even go in any order backwards or forwards so oh well. Family Friday will be posted here and on my family blog so I guess this is mostly for me and my family but in case anyone else wants to know the sweetest, best people on this Earth then here ya go.

December 30th 2010-

The Cermak side of the family needed entire family portraits so we got hooked up with this amazing lady and we went to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens and just let loose.

This was a huge tree that was over 200 years old and had a huge little hole in and Lilly was digging it.
The more immediate family. Dawn, Morgan, Cade, Hills, Luke and us. Oh and notice Bob. He is on Clayton's knee and really helped keep Lilly occupied.

Horrible face/ chins for me but Lilly is adorable.

The Boys-

The Girls- p.s. who forgot to tell me to tuck in my tummy when taking a picture otherwise you look 9 months pregnant :(
All the Cousins with wives and babies-

The originals-

We had a blast and I will for sure go back there to get some photography practice with just Lilly!

Princess and the Pea for my princess

I am in love with Fairy Tales. I know every Disney movie word for word and own them to boot. My new thing is reading retold fairy tales. It has just reignited my love for them. They are so sweet and special while usually teaching good morals, and have strong roles for women. I just all in all love them. I wish I lived in one. So...

I found this tutorial at Moda Bake Shop for a Princess and the Pea Quilt and loved every inch of it. I even decided I had to use the same fabric (which is old and not printed anymore yikes!!). I bought two of the Honey Buns because I eventually want to make one for my almost 4 SIL. I haven't bought any of the border fabric, backing fabric, binding, or even the top part with the princess applique. So i have really just bought the mattresses and the sheets. It will be a long-process quilt but that's ok with me and I am making it big enough for Princess Lilly to grow into.

Here is my Honey Bun!

I just love the colors they scream fairy tale, happily ever after, all that.

I have 20 "mattresses" sewn together so far and every 5 I slip in a sheet which is just pretty trim I picked out on my own. Most are lace and one is pleated satin.

This is the overview so far. I love the long strips of fabric. They really do look like mattresses.

This is the rest all jumbled up and getting ready to sew.

I think I will also make a doll quilt similar and a doll to sleep with her when its finally ready.

Window Shopping Wednesday

As I said a couple of posts ago I plan on taking more time for this blog and thus more posts.

Wednesdays will appeal to the side of me that wants-but can't have. You see I have been looking for a job (teaching) for close to two years. That is ok because I have a little one and time not working is time with her...I am not complaining. However recently, like right before Christmas, was told he would be losing his job soon. We are blessed that it hasn't happened yet and we are saving like crazy for that day that will surely come. Meanwhile he is looking for a job and I am turning up the heat on my search as well.

This little set back has taken any discretionary money away and we are just striving to survive. Thus I window shop!

Today is a big random bunch of stuff that is actually on my list for when I have money again. These will be our family's first purchases.

First a prime lenses for my new DSLR because I am working on a goal of getting paid for taking pictures of someone before next Christmas. I think this lenses would help out!
Another goal is to make Lilly some wearable clothing. I think from research I have done and from other blogs that a serger would help too. My least favorite parts would be helped by this so I am excited!
We had a blu-ray player that went out sometime last summer. Some of my favorite movies we own are only in blu-ray (twilight!!!) so we need to replace this. A plus that put it on my husbands radar is that we have netflix and it is only in our livingroom and we would both like it in our bedroom and this would accomplish that!

Lastly is my kindle! I already call it mine because I need it and it needs me. I am an avid reader and I soon plan on going back to school so this is a must. I got my mom one for Christmas and she adores it. The hubs and me are going to share it but I am salivating over the books already. Hubs said the day he gets a job he will order it for me.

Next Wednesday we will make Window Shopping Wednesday more about crafting...maybe even an all fabric one!

Thanks!

A little...ok big project I have been working on

Back in August I started working on a Hexagon Charm quilt. I lovingly refer to her as Hexie. I got the idea from Melanie over at Texas Freckles. I chose to make it a Christmas quilt and used Kate Spain's 12 days of Christmas for Moda. I started out with just one charm pack to see how I would fair. I kinda fell in love so I am in for the long haul.

I have made quit a few hexagons so far but I would say I am only about 35% done with constructing to Hexies.
I will need about 1500 total to complete the quilt top and I hope to have that done by next Christmas. In each charm pack there are 42 squares that makes 168 2.5" and that is what you need to make the Hexagon. So I buy 3 charm packs at a time to keep the hubs at bay. That is 504 at a time. I will need a total of 9 Charm packs to complete this project!
For he first 100 I made them and then attached all of them into a block of 100. Then I made another 100 and attached them into another block and attached that block to the first. I like this method because I see progress as I go. It keeps me interested and lets me set small goals and then achieve them.

My goal for the rest of January is construct the rest of the Hexagons that I have the fabric for so I can buy the rest I need and it will be easier to just attach after that. I will still just do it in the 100 Hexie blocks.
This is what I have done so far as well as about 400 hexies sitting in an empty popcorn tin waiting to become attached to its friends. I have tried to not let any of the same colors touch but I am also not so anal that when it happened once or twice (ok like 8 times) I wasn't going to pick out my stitches because all this hand sewing takes a lot of time and it is very small and very tight.

Thanks for indulging me with a look at a project that will take me forever but I promise to give you updates.

New Year

My personal mantra is if you are on time you are late! I have a big hang up on punctuality.

That is why I cannot fathom why it has been since November 23 since the last time I posted.

I really want this blog thing to work out and I need to do more so I need to just accept the fact that it is going to take planning and work. Even though it is over 3 weeks late I am going to put into words my New Year's revolutions.

1) My body needs work this year, get it healthy with diet, exercises and all around care. Take the time to fix my hair, wear make-up, shave my legs and dress nicely. This pleases my husband and thus honors the Lord.

2) 30 books

3) Read the Bible in 90 days ( Doing great so far!!!)

4) Save up $10,000 dollars for a home...whenever it is we get to buy one.

5) Join Bible study/ Adult Bible Fellowship

6) Lead by example for my daughter by keeping a clean and tidy home

7) Learn how to use my new DSLR camera completely

8) Blog more consistently and get some followers

9) Make Lilly some clothes

10) Get Pregnant

11) Go on a vacation

12) Get a job!

For now this is all. I will be back soon!
